Vaginal odor is usually associated with foul smell discharge. The most common are:
1.bacterial vaginosis.
Bacterial vaginosis is an inflammation of the vagina caused by the overgrowth of certain types of bacteria normally present there, thereby disrupting the natural balance. The condition used to be called Gardnerella vaginitis, after the bacteria that caused the condition. The newer term focuses on the fact that there are several species of bacteria that naturally live in the vaginal area and could grow to excessive levels.
A woman in her reproductive years is most likely to suffer from bacterial vaginosis, but any woman can be affected by the condition. The exact causes of bacterial vaginosis are unknown, but certain activities, such as unprotected sexual contact and frequent douching, are associated with a higher risk.
symptoms of bacterial vaginosis
itching around the vagina
vaginal discharge which is usually thin and greyish white
vaginal odor and discharge noticeable after sexual intercourse

Bacterial vaginosis definitely has to be treated and proper counseling is done on the patient.
This bad smell from the vagina is because of its pH. The normal pH of the vagina is 3.8 to 4.5, which means it is acidic. So, anything that alters this pH makes the vagina smell. Also, there is a normal bacteria that lives in the vagina called lactobacilli. This bacteria prevents the growth of bad bacteria in the vagina and it does not cause any harm.
Considering the fact that the vagina is acidic, having a small smell in it is normal, as long as it is not accompanied by other symptoms such as itching and abnormal discharge.
BACTERIAL VAGINOSIS Usually changes the pH of the Vagina to 7. This is due to the imbalance of the good bacteria and the bad bacteria. Thus making it smell. This imbalance can be caused by clouching, having sex, and copper intrauterine contraceptives.
2.TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS
Another infection that can make your vagina smell is TRICHOMONAS VAGINALIS This is a sexually transmitted infection. Its symptoms include an itchy vagina and a discharge. It is the most common curable sexually transmitted disease. The worst thing about this disease is it increases the chances of contracting other dangerous sexually transmitted diseases. And you should also know that it also affects men.
Those are two diseases that make the vagina smell.
